Ballroom Rumba
with Christopher Toscano
Rumba, oft known as the Dance of Love, is a slow, expressive Latin ballroom dance known for its controlled movements, distinctive hip action, and romantic character. Danced to slower music in a steady 4/4 rhythm, it emphasizes syncopations, precise footwork and balance, coordinated movements between the rib cage and hips, and the delayed transfer of weight, creating a graceful contrast between stillness and motion.
This class teaches technique and patterns primarily based off of the International Latin Syllabus. Compared with American Rhythm Rumba, International Rumba follows a more standardized technique and timing, with dancers typically beginning on beat two and is danced with a straight leg action similar to International Cha Cha Cha.
